About Me!

Hi, I’m Kyra, a Computer Science student passionate about data and creating innovative solutions using my organizational and team-building expertise.

I am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at Davidson College, and I am completing my last year of a Computer Science major and Data Science Minor. In the coming year, I will be attending NC State to pursue a Master’s of Science in Analytics to further my data science career.

I am technically proficient in Python, R, and SQL, and I have skills utilizing the following programs or languages: Java, C, JMP / JSL Scripting, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Stata, Mathematica, Latex, Adobe Experience Manager, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel.

Some of my key experience stems from my 2 summers interning at JMP, a subsidiary of SAS. While there, I worked independently and collaboratively, refining my problem-solving skills. My projects included creating a global dashboard for project sales data, developing a demonstration video for JMP’s Python integration, and reorganizing JMP’s case study library by adding 62 new web pages to improve user experience. My demonstration was featured in a public webinar with over 350 attendees and is now a resource for sales and technical staff. These projects, along with company-wide presentations and networking activities, contributed to my growth as a data analyst.

My external passions include swimming, organization, and music. I have swam since I was four years old, eventually joining club groups and moving into a college career. Due to the time commitment resulting from club swimming, I have developed a love for organization and scheduling. I thrive off my meticulous time-management skills and my ability to break down projects and attack them piece by piece. As for music, I have been singing all of my life and love to play guitar, piano, and ukulele. I’m captivated by Broadway shows and the emotion shown through music, and I would love to incorporate this love into my data analytics one day, potentially working in the music analytics industry.

In college, I developed strong analytical and leadership skills. As a Division 1 student-athlete, I balanced 20+ hours of athletic training weekly with academics and extracurriculars, such as performing in an a cappella group and organizing events for computer science organizations. This experience honed my ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Academically, I excelled in courses that pushed me to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems. A key project involved using machine learning to investigate National Crime Victimization Survey data and determine the potential of predicting what crimes will be reported by individuals, deepening my interest in analytics for real-world challenges. My leadership roles as president of the Women in Computer Science group and in leading Natural Language Processing workshops demonstrate my ability to guide peers.

I’m a social, active, and passionate person. I’m looking forward to a future career where I am able to solve problems and bridge the gap between statistical techniques and real-world applications, particularly in the music and entertainment industry.
